Micro Focus and m2o Successfully Migrate Legacy Applications
to Windows Platform
Oxford, UK - October 18, 2004 - Micro
Focus International Ltd. (Micro Focus) today announced from
Gartner's Symposium/ITxpo 2004 that it has once again
successfully partnered with m2o (Move2open), a leading provider
of data migration and application conversion technologies, to
migrate critical legacy applications from the proprietary
mainframe environment to the more open and extensible Microsoft®
Windows® platform. Central States Health & Life Co. of Omaha
(CSO) joins Tulane University as one of the most recent
organizations to have realized the cost benefits of moving off
the mainframe to the lower cost Windows solution. Both m2o and
Micro Focus are members of the Mainframe Migration Alliance, a
consortium of technology and service providers committed to
helping customers migrate application workload from the
mainframe to the Windows platform.
CSO decided to move critical mainframe applications to Windows
for two primary reasons. First, were high hardware and software
costs associated with maintaining a mainframe environment, and
second was difficulty finding and retaining personnel trained in
the proprietary CA-IDEAL language and CA-Datacom database. Using
the services of m2o and technology provided by Micro Focus, CSO
converted its CA-IDEAL application portfolio to new COBOL code
using SQL Server databases on the Windows platform.
